Why are Some Health Problems Persistent?
In wholistic medicine, we look at the WHOLE body – meaning the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and balance – not just the symptoms. That is why it is called “whole-istic.”
If you have persistent health issues, then your body is trying to let you know that you are out of balance, not just physically, but somewhere else.
The problems is, western medicine treats symptoms, not causes. In some cases, this is helpful. With other cases, especially chronic symptoms, or symptoms that have been around for some time, treating just the symptom may only serve as a temporary solution or other symptoms may arise. Symptoms are persistent because you aren’t fully addressing the imbalance.
As adults, we get into a routine. We have habits, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Those habits are at the root of your issues. Unfortunately, many of the habits are unconscious – we do them without thinking. So the imbalances that cause illness keep running in the background of your mind until something happens to get you to STOP and pay attention. Often times, this can be a health crisis. Your body, mind and spirit will turn up the volume again and again until you stop and address the issues.
So what can you do?
* Listen to your body. What is it trying to tell you? What areas of your life are out of balance? What changes do you need to make?
What is at the root of your symptoms? When did the 1st experience happen and what did you learn from it that is contributing to your dis-ease?
* How are you meant to evolve or what are you meant to learn from this experience. All of our human experiences give us the opportunity to evolve – this is no different.
* What do you need to give your body, mind and spirit to help nourish it back to health?
When you look these core issues, you can unravel where you are out of balance in order to make changes to get back to being healthy.
Doing this work alone can be challenging. I know, I have done it myself. I have always found that it is easier to have someone help. They have an outside perspective and aren’t seeing through the blinders you have created.
